THEME DOCUMENTATION

Torque Grid — setup guide

A technical Shopify theme for tools, parts, industrial equipment and electronics. This guide covers configuration of the current release candidate.

Set up an unpublished copy

  1. Upload the theme ZIP in Online Store → Themes. Keep the theme unpublished while configuring it.
  2. In the theme editor, choose your logo, favicon, colors and typography. Select your navigation and footer menus. The theme does not create products, menus or pages.
  3. Connect your actual collections, products and images to each homepage section. Use short descriptive headings and check image crops on mobile.
  4. Create a contact page and assign the contact template. Confirm the store’s contact notification address and test delivery.
  5. Replace illustrative copy with accurate information about your products, services, shipping and returns. Demo imagery and specifications are not verified supplier data.

Departments and navigation

Compose the homepage with Engineering campaign, Department grid, Featured collection, Workshop story and FAQ. Select real collections and images. Create a three-level menu and select it in Technical header; configure footer menus separately.

Open quick order for a collection by adding ?view=quick-order to its URL. Use the ordinary collection URL for visual browsing.

Technical data and documentation

Create storefront-readable metaobjects and product metafields in the torque namespace. The following product fields are lists of metaobject references:

Add single-line product fields torque.comparison_group and torque.department. Use consistent specification labels and units within each comparison group. Comparison is textual, not automatic unit conversion or a compatibility guarantee.

Only enter verified fitment, replacements and certificates. Unknown data stays unknown. A document link does not verify the contents of a manual or certification.

Native technical filters

Configure filters in Shopify Search & Discovery. Start with availability, price and department, then relevant product options such as Finish, Connection, Kit and Pack. Use your actual option names and supported typed metafields. Do not expose internal comparison groups or entire specification records as customer filters.

Apply, sort, clear and pagination use Shopify’s native results. Quick order has its own filter panel. Changing filters or pages discards quantities that have not been submitted; items already in the cart remain there.

Quick order and purchase behavior

Quick order provides inline variants for products with at most 50 variants. Larger products or products requiring a subscription link to the product page. Quantity zero skips a row; positive quantities must respect the selected variant’s minimum, increment and maximum. Changing the variant clears the previous quantity.

Displayed totals are estimates, excluding shipping, tax adjustments and cart discounts. Shopify validates final inventory and prices. After a network error, check the cart before retrying: the request may already have reached Shopify.

Product option links reload the native page for the exact selected option values. Configure real pickup locations before expecting pickup availability. Accelerated checkout uses Shopify controls; official wallet branding is not recolored.

Languages, accessibility and launch checks

Publish the languages and markets you need in Shopify, then enable the theme’s country and language selectors where available. The store must provide multiple choices before a selector can display them. Currency availability and checkout behavior depend on your Shopify payment and market configuration; the theme does not independently convert or charge currencies.

Translate both theme strings and your editable content. Check long translations, right-sized images, visible keyboard focus and text contrast after customization. Reduced-motion preferences should remain respected. Avoid negative-margin overrides that remove the spacing between sections.

Complete page titles and descriptions in Shopify and add meaningful image descriptions. Test populated home, collection and product pages: filters, sorting, unavailable variants, cart updates, checkout, forms and search. Test app blocks, media, gift cards, pickup and selling plans when your store uses them.

Use optimized photographs and limit unnecessary app scripts. Performance depends on store content, installed apps, devices and networks. Technical test scores do not guarantee search ranking or Shopify approval.

Update without losing your work

Duplicate the current theme before updating. Record code customizations and integrations, apply them to an unpublished copy, and recheck navigation, variants, cart, translations and forms before publishing.
