THEME DOCUMENTATION · VERSION 1.0

Make VOLT yours.

VOLT is a native Shopify Liquid theme for electronics and technical products. Studio, Performance and Office are three starting-point presets that share the same features. Marketplace review is pending; this guide describes the current release candidate.

Start with your store

  1. In Shopify, open Online Store → Themes and upload the theme ZIP. Keep it unpublished while configuring and testing.
  2. Open the theme editor and choose Studio, Performance or Office. Set your logo, favicon, colors and font under Brand & typography.
  3. Create navigation under Content → Menus, then choose it in Header → Main menu. Up to three navigation levels are supported. Enable category images and use Menu product spotlight blocks to feature selected products.
  4. Assign your own collections to Visual categories, Spec collection and Shop by purpose. Choose images and focal points, including a separate mobile hero image when needed.
  5. Choose a blog for Buying guides. Create a contact page and assign the contact template. Configure footer links, store policies, localization and newsletter content.
  6. Test products, variants, filters, cart and checkout with your real store configuration before publishing. Do not treat demo product details as factual inventory.

Product details that stay accurate

Prices, inventory, options, SKU and media come from Shopify products and variants. Use verified manufacturer data for technical fields. Empty optional sections stay hidden; VOLT does not infer specifications from a product title.

In Settings → Custom data, create a metaobject definition named volt_specification with single-line text fields key, group, label, value and optional unit. Enable storefront access. Keep machine keys and units consistent within comparable products.

Variant metafields volt.snapshot and volt.specifications can override product-level data. Supply complete values for that configuration. Do not copy the base configuration’s capacity or dimensions into a different variant.

Documents and FAQs

Create volt_document entries with a required single-line title and either a file file reference or url URL field. Link entries using the product metafield volt.documents, a list of metaobject references. Only link real manuals or certificates.

For product FAQs, create volt_faq with a single-line question and rich-text answer, then link entries through volt.faq. Translate customer-facing labels and content through your normal Shopify translation workflow.

Navigation and useful filters

Install Shopify’s Search & Discovery app to configure native storefront facets. Start with availability, price, brand and product type, then add relevant options or supported typed metafields for your products. Display specification rows and filter metafields are separate: creating a specification row alone does not enable a filter.

VOLT renders Shopify’s available filters and counts on collection and search pages. Customers can apply choices, remove chips, sort and change pages. On mobile, the same form opens in a drawer. If a request fails, pending choices remain and a link to the native results page is available.

For menu spotlights, match the block’s top-level menu label to the actual menu label, including translations. Choose a product rather than typing a hardcoded URL or price.

Compare up to four products

Comparison selections are saved on the customer’s device, not synchronized to an account. Matching volt.comparison_group values enable technical comparison using consistent specification keys. Different or missing groups show a price-only comparison with a warning. There is no automatic unit conversion or compatibility guarantee.

Remove deleted or unavailable items if their comparison data cannot load. Prices are fetched from the store rather than permanently copied into the customer’s saved selection.

Campaigns, accessibility and performance

Use actual discounts and dates for promotions. Set accurate prices and compare-at prices in Shopify. Avoid fabricated stock warnings, ratings or shipping promises. Review-app blocks can display ratings supplied by your review service.

Keep headings descriptive, test contrast after changing colors, provide useful image descriptions and verify the mobile layout. Reduced-motion preferences turn off cosmetic transitions. Use properly sized photographs rather than uploading unnecessarily large images. Installed apps and store content can affect performance.

Updating safely

Duplicate the current theme before updating. Keep a record of custom code, settings and app integrations; do not overwrite the live theme without testing. Test keyboard navigation, translated content, variants and checkout again after changes.
