About FOLIO

FOLIO is a fictional bookshop, made to show the POLYMATH theme. Every title, author and bookseller is invented.

We keep a short shelf of books we have read, argued about and would press into a friend’s hands, and a table of paper and pens for writing about them.

Our one rule

We only sell books that one of us has finished.

The FOLIO booksellers (fictional)

The back room

After closing, the kettle goes on

On the first Thursday of the month, six to ten readers pull chairs between the shelves and talk about one book. Shorter books in the busy months, longer ones in winter. (Demo event.)

How we sell books

Slowly, by hand

  • A short shelf

Fewer titles, each one read and argued over.

  • A note in every book

The bookseller who chose it says why.

  • Wrapped in paper

Plain paper and string, with a handwritten card on request.

  • Ask us anything

Tell us the last book you loved and we suggest the next.
